Kelsey Smith ~ Co-Owner + Director, Choreographer, & Instructor
Kelsey has been dancing since the age of 4. She grew up training in all styles of dance. Kelsey fell in love with the competition dance world and started competing at age 13. After graduating high school, Kelsey became a dance teacher, choreographer, and competition team coach. Kelsey has taught a variety of ages and styles, put on numerous performances, and has choreographed many award-winning regional routines as well as nationals routines for studios across the country! Additionally, she has taught dance camps to kids ages 5-15 through the local college, North Central. Kelsey has also worked with some of the top people in the industry. She has taken classes from 'Dancing With the Stars' Pro and Mirrorball champion Artem Chigvinstev. She participated in the 2023 Dance Games where she got to dance and work with the industry's best dancers such as Kida the Great, Sean Lew, Keoni and Mari, Nappytabs, and more! Kelsey has a huge passion for dance and love for teaching kids. Her goal for Prodigy Dance Company is to build the next generation of dance proteges while having a safe, fun, and loving studio environment!
Ember Hartley ~ Co-Owner + Director, Choreographer, & Instructor
Ember has been dancing for 14 years with comprehensive training in ballet, tap, musical theater, contemporary, lyrical, jazz, hip hop, and acrobatics. She has taken classes from renowned choreographers such as Kathryn McCormick, who is famed for her role in ‘Step Up Revolution’ and her accolades as the third place winner of ‘So You Think You Can Dance,’ as well as Jeremy Hudson who is known for his work in ‘La La Land’ and for choreographing parts of Taylor Swift’s ‘The Eras Tour.’ Additionally, she has attended numerous charities through her dance studios such as Walk4Water and Dance Battle 4 the Cure. After high school, Ember pursued higher education at North Central Michigan College where she earned her Associate of Arts degree. Post-graduation, Ember transitioned into the role of a dance educator, teaching recreational classes as well as choreographing award-winning competition routines. Her passion and love for the artistry of dance shines through in her teaching. Her goal for the studio is more than just elite dance instruction; it is a heartfelt commitment to fostering a love of dance in the next generation. Through a lens of positivity, kindness, and love, Ember hopes to inspire young dancers to be confident and strong in their body and mind. It is her mission to cultivate a safe, welcoming, and loving studio environment for anyone who enters the doors of Prodigy Dance Company.
Emily Engel ~ Instructor, Choreographer, & Event Coordinator
Emily discovered her love for dance at 10 years old and has trained in lyrical, contemporary, tap, ballet, jazz, leaps & turns, Celtic, and pointe. Emily trained at Just Dance in Gaylord for 8 years and has been choreographing for over 7 years. She has participated in classes from renowned dancers such as Erica Sobol, Keith Clifton, and Hanna Brictson, as well as 'So You Think You Can Dance' contestant Channing Cooke and 'America's Got Talent' star Dejan Tubic. Emily taught dance for 3 years at her local homeschool co-op, Christian Homeschoolers of Northern Michigan, and was a teacher at Just Dance for one year. After high school, she began teaching at Beautiful Feet Dance Studio. Emily has instructed dancers ages one to adult and has choreographed over 30 pieces. Blending faith and dance has been her passion since she was 12 years old and performed her first solo to 'You Raise Me Up' by Josh Groban. She discovered how incredibly close she felt to our Father on stage glorifying Him with her talents and began teaching 3 years later to spread this joy. Emily loves helping her students develop their talents so they can find joy in dance and glorify God with their gifts from Him. She is enthusiastic about building up her students' self confidence, helping them grow through hard work and determination, and showing them they can create beauty. Emily feels blessed and excited to share her passion for dance with everyone at Prodigy Dance Company.
Mya Eichler ~ Sub Instructor & Protégé Assistant
Mya has been dancing since the age of 2 and has trained in a variety of styles, favoring classical ballet and contemporary styles. Throughout her life, she has always been immersed in the arts- from competitive cheerleading and dance to visual art and design. Mya has competed on local dance teams throughout Michigan, developing a strong foundation in performance, technique, and creativity. In addition to her role as an instructor and choreographer at Prodigy Dance Company, Mya is currently pursuing her Associate of Fine Arts degree at Kirtland Community College, where she continues to expand her artistic talents. Her passion for the arts shines through in her choreography, which combines emotion, storytelling, and technical precision. Mya is committed to creating a supportive, expressive, and inspiring space for young dancers to grow!
